چکیده

The development, survival, and fecundity of Scymnus subvillosus (Goeze) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) were studied at 20, 25, 30, and 35 degrees C, 60 +/- 5% RH, and a photoperiod of 16:8 (L:D) h (5,000 lux) under laboratory conditions. The total developmental time from egg hatch to adult eclosion ranged from 22.6 d at 20 degrees C to 10.6 d at 35 degrees C. The developmental rates of the egg stage, the larval stage, and total preadult stage at different temperatures increased linearly with increasing temperature. The thermal summation of the egg stage, the larval stage, and the total preadult stage was 77.5, 145.8 and 300 degree-days (DD), respectively. The developmental threshold of the egg stage, the larval stage, and the total preadult stage was 7.4, 4.1, and 7.1 degrees C, respectively. The life history raw data were analyzed using the age-stage, two-sex life table. The intrinsic rate of increase was 0.0845, 0.1138, 0.1395, and 0.0668 d(-1) at 20, 25, 30, and 35 degrees C, respectively. The net reproductive rate was highest at 25 degrees C (R0 = 78.7), and lowest at 35 degrees C (R0 = 4.7). The mean generation time was shortest at 35 degrees C (T = 23.9 d). The life table data can be used for the projection of population growth and designing mass rearing programs.

ECOLOGY AND POPULATION BIOLOGY Oviposition, Development, and Feeding of Scymnus (Neopullus) sinuanodulus (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae): A Predator of Adelges tsugae (Homoptera: Adelgidae)

The hemlock woolly adelgid, Adelges tsugae Annand, is a major threat to hemlocks in the eastern United States. As part of efforts to control this pest, Scymnus (Neopullus) sinuanodulus Yu et Yao, a potential predator, was collected from hemlocks in Yunnan, China. Three shipments were imported during 1996 and 1997 to a quarantine laboratory to study the beetleÕs biology. Beetles began ovipositio...

Mitochondrial COI and morphological specificity of the mealy aphids (Hyalopterus ssp.) collected from different hosts in Europe (Hemiptera, Aphididae)

Forty three European population samples of mealy aphids from various winter and summer host plants were attributed to respective species of Hyalopterus by means of their partial sequences of mitochondrial COI gene. Used Hyalopterus samples emerged as monophyletic relative to outgroup and formed three major clades representing three host specific mealy aphid species in the Neighbor joining, Maxi...

Effects of temperature and photoperiod on the aestivo-hibernal egg diapause of Scymnus camptodromus (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae).

Three sequential studies were conducted on the interacting effects of exposure to low (5°C) temperature for 0, 7, 28, 56, or 84 d followed by incubation at 10, 15, or 20°C on the egg diapause of Scymnus (Neopullus) camptodromus Yu and Liu (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae). This beetle was imported from China as a potential biological control agent for hemlock woolly adelgid, Adelges tsugae (Annand) ...
